Signed, SEALed and Delivered

Did any of you see the news about the Navy SEALS' rescue of the ship captain who was taken hostage by Somali pirates? I can only say that I was awed by the skill of those Navy sharpshooters. The fact that they were able to kill the three pirates, who were holed up in a small, enclosed lifeboat that was bobbing erratically in rough seas is amazing in and of itself. But add to that, the fact that they each took only one shot and they did not harm the hostage they were trying to save, makes this rescue mission even more remarkable. Regardless of any one's thoughts on the government's spending of federal tax dollars on the military, I think we can all agree that the money spent to train those SEALS was money well spent. Makes me proud to be an American.

I agree! I am in awe of their skills and am grateful for what they did. But it BLOWS ME AWAY to think in this day and age we still have to worry about pirates! Thats NUTS!

I was thinking of writing about pirates today, too - but couldn't quite find my angle. Your perspective - accentuating the positive - is awesome (as usual)!

Did I!! GO NAVY is all I can say! I knew as soon as the Navy was on the scene there was no way those pirates were gonna get past the SEALS!! I just heard on the news that apparently overnight there was another attack on an American ship that was diverted. They were fired upon with rockets, but the crew barricaded themselves on the ship and radioed that the Navy was on the way. The USS Bainbridge to the rescue again! GO NAVY GO NAVY GO NAVY!!

Mommy - You are so right! Modern day pirates are definitely not something I ever thought much about. Who knew?

Tammy - It nice to hear that you see my perspective as accenuating the positive. That is something I really struggle with. I can tend to be a Negative Nelly, and that is something I've been working hard on. Your comment really made my day!

30 - I hadn't heard about the latest attack! I can only hope that the pirates are going to get the message that they better quit messing with our (and other's) ships. It's not wise to take on the strongest Navy in the world! My concern is that the area is so large that it can't be efficiently policed. Time will tell. But, in the meantime, you said it very well... GO NAVY!

My husband is an avid fan of The Military Channel. We once watched a program based on military snipers. Some of the situations they find themselves in can be downright crazy. One sniper, during the Vietnam Conflict, stayed buried in marshy grass, being stung by ants continuously, even having enemy soldiers walking over him, before completing his assignment. They only choose the best of the best to snipe, so to speak. Go Navy!

Alex - That is amazing. I have the utmost respect for all our men and women in uniform. I have seen bits of documentary on the training necessary to be a SEAL, and it incredibly brutal. As you say, only the best of best make it through the training.

Shelley - Thanks for stopping by my blog. And I'll second (or third) that Amen!
