Musing Mondays

MUSING MONDAYS are hosted by Rebecca at Just One More Page. Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about mid-year reading…

Now that we’ve come to the middle of the year, what do you think of your 2009 reading so far? Read anything interesting that you’d like to share? Any outstanding favourites?

2009 has been a fantastic book year for me so far. As you all know, I've been on a bit of a book roll recently. I've already posted reviews of all my 2009 favorites. Here are the links:

Mudbound by Hillary Jordan

The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson

The Help by Kathryn Stockett (for some unknown reason, I can't get the link to work for this one. If you are interested you can type The Help into the Search box on my sidebar to read this post. Sorry.)

It's pretty unusual for me to find 3 amazing books in one year, let alone by mid-year. 2009 - it's been a very good year.

How about you? How has your 2009 reading shaping up? Please leave a comment here or link to your own Musing Monday post.

I've enjoyed most of this year's books, but 2 outstanding:
A Thousand Splendid Suns
The Namesake.

The Help is my next book up..........can't wait.

Two that come to mind for this year are:

Moloka'i
Gargoyle
Happens Everyday

And I have been trying to read Mudbound and it's not grabbing me. I'll keep trying. I'm waiting for The Help to arrive from the libary and have high hopes for that.

I've read a couple really good books this year too. I'm currently on the look for the next read. I should probably check out all the unread ones that have been collecting dust on my shelf, but I want to buy some new ones too!

Visiting from SITS :)

You are off to a good start! I have been having a hard time carving out time to read, and I don't have anything of substance to add.

But if you want a guilty pleasure try the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum series... Fast, funny, completely silly, and totally entertaining. You can read one at the beach in an afternoon.

I have finished the Twilight series(wasn't really interested but my girls wanted me to read them) and I did like them, sometimes I got impatient with the author.
I am about 1/3 of the way into The Gargole. Wow Pam, it is a very deep and somewhat intense read. Like you, I find myself identifing with the narrator, thinking I would feel the same way he does. What a very sad life he has lead so far. I have had my grandson for the last 4 days so I haven't got to read as much as I would like but this book is very thought provoking and makes you want to get back to it to see what will happen next.

I did love The Gargoyle. I've indulged in a lot of quick reads - nothing too deep. I didn't read a lot over the winter, so I'm just sort of hitting my stride.

Though I haven't looked at a book in a few days (weird, I know!), this has been the best year for my book reading, both in quantity and quality. Some great stuff!

It is so hard for me to just pick up a book and read it. I haven't had much luck this year so far. I've read the Twilight series, although not what I"d normally read, I think there is something missing in my life that leaves me yearning to read more of Edward and Bella's story. I've tried reading more realistic fiction this year, so far Fried Green Tomatoes is at the top of the bill. Three positives on The Gargoyle here, though. I may have to give that one a try!

I trust you Pam... going to go add thses titles to my Goodreads "to read" list.....

Best thing I read so far in 2009? That's hard.... East of Eden comes to mind... also Garden of Earthly Delights.

I'm reading too much. Nothing else is getting done - including a new post on my blog. But such a pleasure to be doing so. Just started The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Didn't think I would like it but 1/4 in, I do.

I have Mudbound and The Help on my TBR list. As you know, Gargoyle is one of my faves but I read that last year. I haven't read anything that took my breath away this year. But, you should see the stack I have accumulated for my beach trip this month!

Right now I am reading American Wife. It's the sort of book that I want to keep reading to get to the end, but the kids keep calling, laundry is piling up, and everyone wants dinner. Come on, people!
