Content is King

Not too long ago, I posted about things I've learned in the year since I began blogging. One thing I mentioned is that I most enjoy blogs with great content. I enjoy reading blog posts that make me think or sit up and take notice. Blog posts that make me itch to leave a comment and become part of the conversation on that person's blog. And I enjoy writing those types of posts, too. I love it when I get a conversation started on my blog that continues behind the scenes.

Another thing I learned is that it's very difficult to find these blogs I call "blogs of substance". I have found some (all of you!), but it's been a trial and error process. Many of you have expressed similar feelings. For a while I thought about starting a blog that would serve as a venue for Blogs of Substance to find each other and to have a chance to be highlighted. I spent a lot of time talking this over with my fellow blogger, friend and step mom, Sandy of It's a Jungle Out There. Well, guess what? We did it! (Actually, Sandy really did it. She created the site, even though she's never done anything remotely like that before. I did, however, cheer her on!).

So, if like me, you are a little tired of blogs full of giveaways and ads that seem to have overridden the "meat" of the blog, please check out our new blog Words of Wisdom (WOW). We will be highlighting blogs of substance to help you find them and also to help draw interested traffic to your great blog. All you have to do is follow WOW, grab our button, "join the conversation" by checking in regularly and leaving a comment and of course, visiting and commenting on the highlighted blog, the Blog of Note. Want to become a Blog of Note? Let us know. There is more information on how to do that on WOW.

Please join us. And if this sounds like something you are interested in, please feel free to post about it on your own blog. The key to WOW's success is going to be by spreading the word. I hope you will all decide to become a WOW Blogger of Note. You all write such thoughtful and insightful posts. Let's help each other find other like-minded blogs.

UPDATE: I'm beyond thrilled to announce that WOW will be highlighting its inaugural Blogger of Note (BON) on Monday! Please be sure to stop by and visit this extemely eloquent blogger. And be sure to "join the conversation" by commenting on Monday's WOW post so that other bloggers can find you, too.

(So, who wants to be next? Let me know).

What a fabulous idea!

I admit to often posting some "fluff" even though I really like the heartfelt posts.

I started a meme last week on Wednesdays, call "Pour Your Heart Out," which encourages people to do just that, with anything that happens to be on their minds. And the posts that were linked up were some of the best that I've read in a long time.

Off to check it out!

Oooh exciting! I honestly feel that my personal blog is a mix up of trite family business, some pictures, book reviews, and occasionally I write something of worth.
I look forward to following this new blog and adventure!

I'm so glad the two of you struck out and did this. I look forward to seeing the community grow. I'll do a blog about it sometime this week.

Shell - Thanks for your encouragement. You know what, everyone posts "fluff" sometimes. And that's OK. We're not looking for the next great philosopher or author. Just bloggers who have some meat in their posts. Not every post needs to be profound. I hope you'll consider becoming a Blogger of Note.

Anita - Your blog is EXACTLY the type of blog we're trying to attract. We all have families and blog about them. But you do it in a way that is insightful and thoughtful. Thanks for following and we'd love it if you'd consider becoming a Blogger of Note.

Elle!- You rock. Thanks so much for your support and for blogging about WOW. Will you consider becoming a Blogger of Note? It's a great way to meet other terrific bloggers.

Sounds like a great idea. I'll check it out and will stick it on my blog. like you I enjoy a good, heartfelt read. I do get a bit sick of "fluff" although I'm sure I'm guilty of it too.

Hi Pam!

I have been following Sandy's blog for quite some time now and came to yours through her. She had mentioned that you and she wanted to start something like you did with WOW and I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am about it! Reading blogs had gotten to be so mundane and predictable since so many of them have gone that pr/ads/giveaways/review route. Frankly it is tired and boring. A while back when Sandy was inspired to write a post about what she has learned during her time blogging from reading your post on the same subject, it in turn inspired me to finally put my thoughts out there on the subject. I am so glad I did! The feedback I received from that post is amazing!!! There really are many bloggers out there that feel as we do!!!

So, with that said, as soon as you and Sandy say it is ok, I will be promoting the heck out of WOW on my blog!!! I have already added your button!

My post for this coming Monday is related to this topic. I will be sure to include a link to this post. I will look into what else you're doing here. I like to think my blog posts usually have substance and some of the comments I receive are quite thought provoking.

Good luck to you.

What a fantastic idea! I agree with you completely so I'll be so happy to have a place to go and find such bloggers. Can't wait until the ball gets rolling, I'll be visiting!

I have to say, sometimes I do "fluff" posts because I lack something to say on that day, and I like posting something every single day when possible. Like Fill in Fridays, where you fill in the blanks of some questions. I think that is still OK because it still tells people about who YOU are. Not Me Wednesdays drive me bananas. Am I the only one who thinks that? It just feels like that person is NOT blogging at all.

Correction-- I meant to say Wordless Wednesdays, not "Not me Wednesdays" It's monday morning, thats my excuse ;-)

This sounds like a great idea, Pam! I'm going to check it out. While not everything I post is substantive, I try to post only things that are "me."

I think it's such a great thing you're doing and I'm so glad to be part of it.

I follow a few blogs that are basically just giveaways and reviews. While I enjoy the occasional freebie, I don't want an entire blog about that. I like blogging for the connections and for the thinking.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is THANK YOU. And if you need/want any help, let me know!

Love. It! Great idea you two! I don't know if I qualify as a "blog of substance", but I am def. more interested in "readers", not "visitors". Good job you guys!

I'm 100 percent in favor of posts with "content." As you say, "Content is King." Bravo.
