You Lucky Dog!
Has the whole world gone crazy? Yesterday in the Providence Sunday Journal, there was an article highlighting not one, not two, but THREE cookbooks of recipes for dogs. DOGS! Come on. This seems more than a little ridiculous to me. Now before you start wondering if I'm some kind of anti-animal activist, I assure you I am not. I have always had dogs in my life. Right now I have an adorable (mischievous and block-headed) pug, Pearl. And I am careful to take good care of her. I feed her high-quality dog food, she's up to date on all her shots and I give her heart worm medicine religiously. But, I am going to draw the line on making her home-cooked meals. Heck, I hardly make home-cooked meals for the human members of my family! Case in point, last night we had tuna steaks, baked potatoes and salad for dinner. Sounds kind of nice, doesn't it. Well, don't be fooled. I way overcooked the tuna (it was basically inedible), the baked potatoes were left over from Wednesday night and somehow they were undercooked (even though they'd now been cooked twice and the salad (also leftover from some night - not sure which one - this week) was swampy. So, while most of the time I'm a pretty good cook, I don't like to cook. It is incomprehensible to me that there are people out there who like to cook so much that, not only are they willing to cook for their dogs, they are willing to cook recipes developed especially for dogs. But, it does give me an idea. Next time, I'll just give the overcooked tuna, undercooked potatoes and swampy salad to the dog and order a pizza for the rest of my family!

I love my dog pepper, but I draw the line at cooking for her. Just what I need is another member of the family snubbing their nose at dinner!
Well said, Bookaholic! Very well said!
My sister used to fry eggs for her dog for breakfast while her husband ate cold cereal...
I'll fess up to making dog biscuits over the holidays because they're easy and cheaper than buying biscuits and people seem to be impressed. I'm all about cheap, easy and impressive.
But meals for dogs? Give me a break. I won't cook a separate meal for my kids...
Yes, the world has gone crazy! But, there is a lot of money to be made off of people and their love for their pets!
Okay, color me stupid, but when I read the beginning I honestly thought it was a recipe for cooking dog. I was like...er...GROSS!
Thanks for stopping by Unwrap Life! So far, I am totally in love with Netflix. Best gift ever!
I, too, HATE to cook. I can't imagine cooking for the dogs too. I can barely get it done for the husband and myself.
Noticed your "currently reading." I'm currently reading a Richard Russo book myself (my first - Empire Falls). A little early to know my opinion, but I like his writing style (except his penchant for using really long sentences...I try not to notice it so it won't bug me so much!).
And I hope not to have a dog someday, but if I do, it won't be eaten any specially made food!
Tammy - I hope your brother in law likes cold cereal! I suppose making dog biscuits for gifts at Christmas isn't too crazy. Heck, I've even been known to make a Christmas cookie or two. LOL!
Debbie - Ah, money! It does make the world go 'round after all.
Alex - Too funny! I went back and reread my post with that thought in mind and I can totally see how you would think that. So much for my writing talents! Oops!
Much Love -Thanks for stopping by. I'm with you! Cooking is not something I'm ever going to enjoy.
Ronnica - Thanks for stopping by. I'm really enjoying Bridge of Sighs. Russo's writing is absolutely beautiful. I haven't noticed extra long sentences, but I'll be on the look out now.
I don't know...maybe if I were really in the mood to cook something new. Nope. I like to eat what I cook.
Looks like you like to read. Have you read anything by Shannon Hale? Love her! Start with Goosegirl and Princess Academy
Hi Jenny - I like to eat, too. But I prefer that someone else do the cooking. LOL I am not familar with Sharon Hale, but Princess Academy does sound familar. I will check it out. Thanks for the recommendation.
