Sentimental Sunday

I had a very hard time deciding what photo I wanted to highlight for Sentimental Sunday this week. I wanted to pick a photo from our 2007 trip to Europe celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. We spent two weeks, with our girls, visiting Iceland, France and England. It was a wonderful trip. So, I decided I would choose one photo from each country for three consecutive Sundays. So, here's my Iceland photo:

This is the view from the top of Hallgrimur Church in Reykjavik, Iceland. I love this photo because it so clearly shows the colorful houses that line the streets of Iceland's capital. In the foreground is a statue of Lief Erickson, given to the people of Iceland by the United States in 1930, commemorating 1,000 years of the Icelandic Parliament. The oldest Parliament in the world. In addition, you can see the water in the distance - very important for us mermaids! ;) Next Sunday... France!

Wow, beautiful photo! I've never been to Iceland. I'd love to see more photos of the country. I spent four months in Europe when I was 19, so I look forward to your France & England photos!!

Tammy - Thanks! It was a great vacation! One I'll never forget.

Anita - It was a very special vacation. We toyed with the idea of going on a trip by ourselves (it was our anniversary, afterall). But, we decided that the girls were old enough to enjoy and appreciate a trip to Europe and we felt happy to share our anniversary with them. It was the best decision. We will have plenty of anniversaries to celebrate alone when they are grown and gone!

Crystal - Going to Iceland was Geoff (my husband's) idea. For some unknown reason(even to him) he had a real fascination with that country. It seemed like the perfect time to visit. We spent our actual anniversary there. As a matter of fact, from the date stamp on that photo, it was THAT day! The first full day of our trip.

Bethany - How awesome that you were able to spend 4 months in Europe. That is a dream of mine - to live for an extended period of time in a foreign country. Stay tuned for pictures of France and England.

Wow, Iceland. What made you choose that country and what did you think of it? I've had a bug to go there. Now, it seems in deep economic trouble.

p.s. I loved Bridge of Sighs by Russo very much. Empire Falls as well.

Kathy - Iceland is definitely worth a visit. Many people traveling to Europe go through Iceland and spend a long weekend there - which is a great idea!

Jobhunter - Iceland is a strangely beautiful country and very simple and plain in comparison to other European Countries. I really enjoyed it and would definitely go back!

Love the picture. I always enjoy looking down on foreign cities, because they're so different than ours!
