Fa la la la la la la la la!

Is it just me or is anyone else annoyed by the fact that some radio stations are already playing Christmas music? Now don't get me wrong. I love Christmas music as much as the next person. As a matter of fact, I still remember the day many years ago when I found a radio station in Phoenix (where I was living at the time), that played Christmas music every day. I loved that! But it didn't start BEFORE Thanksgiving. It started the day after Thanksgiving, which is also a bit much, but I can handle that. Personally, I don't mind an occasional Christmas song starting right after Thanksgiving. But, I don't like to listen to it continuously until the week of Christmas. But that's just me. I don't like to rush my holidays. Life is rushed enough. I want to get through savor each holiday one at a time. It's bad enough that the Christmas decorations are in the stores before Halloween and that they have been piping in holiday muzak for weeks, but continuous Christmas music in early/mid November!? THAT is just too much! Tell me...am I alone in this?

It's too early for Christmas music, I agree. I have over 400 Christmas songs on my iPod and as much as I'm DYING to listen to them, I can't bring myself to start before Thanksgiving. Loudon Wainwright III has a really funny folksong about this phenomenum, "Suddenly It's Christmas." You can find it on iTunes if you're interested. It's very, uh, germane. :-)

You are not alone. I'm trying to embrace the early holiday spirit a little bit this year but I was really surprised to hear the all day Christmas music on two radio stations already. I also think it's unfair to those who don't celebrate Christmas.

I remember once, oh somewhere around 1990, I was in Thrify's drugstore in November and I witnessed a toddler who, noticing all Christmas displays, asked: "Mommy, why are we skipping Thanksgiving this year?"

No you're not alone. I don't want to hear Christmas music that I'm not playing in my house.

I think you were right the first time - get through. I wonder if I wlll like Christmas again. Thanksgiving is okay. But the next one just wears me out so matter how I try to simplify.

You are NOT alone... My radio station switches to 24/7 Christmas music friday, and I am not happy about it.

I wish I could savor each season a bit more too. I still want to see fall/thanksgiving decorations, and yet those are pushed to the back with all the Christmas things getting front and center attention.
The one thing I'm thankful for is the ability to change the radio. I only listen to it in the car, and much of time I choose satelite radio, commercial free.

So with you and all of your commenters on this one. Too much, too soon. I'll confess to not being completely impartial, though, because I tend to be a bit of a humbug all around...

You are not alone and I love Christmas music! But I especialy hate the commercial of Christmas. The stores ought to be ashamed of themselves!! It comes out sooner and sooner every year!!!!

I agree with you. I love Christmas music, but let it be Fall for awhile. Autumn really gets shortchanged in the rushrushrush to get from Halloween to Christmas.
