TV Quick Quips

Here's my take on this week's episodes of my favorite shows:

1. The Biggest Loser - I really liked both the blue and yellow teams. They were both so gracious and supportive of each other and the other teams. I felt sad to see the blue team go...again. And what's with Miggy's Jekyll and Hyde imitation?

2. Modern Family - Moon Landing! Splash Down! Too funny!

3. The Office - A new episode! Imagine that. So, Michael Scott makes decisions with the same part of his body that he uses to make babies. Finally! A man who admits he thinks with his penis!

TV Quick Quips

This was a lame week for my favorite shows. What a disappointment.

1. The Biggest Loser - OK, I've finally found a team I don't like. The green team. Those two women are the most sour, grumpy and angry women I have ever seen. They have chips on their shoulders the size of boulders. Their true colors really came out this week and they are truly unlikable. I was not sorry to see Migdalia go and now I'm looking forward to the day her mother follows her. And I've finally made a decision about Melissa on the red team. I don't like her. I think I've figured her out and she is arrogant and she thinks she's smarter than everyone else. Not so fast there, Melissa. I've also picked my favorite contestant after this week's episode. Stephanie from the purple team. I love her can do spirit and the fact that she never gives up and she doesn't complain or whine. Did you notice how hard she worked in both of the challenges? That girl has determination. And I'm all about persistence and determination. Go Stephanie!

2. Modern Family - Pre-empted by the State of the Union Address. No way! That just stinks. I need that show like I need oxygen.

3. The Office - A REPEAT!!! You. have. got. to. be. kidding. me. There hasn't been a (truly) new episode since early December. I give up. I just can't care about this show anymore. I'll still watch it, but my rabid fandom is officially over. Are you listening, NBC? You just officially lost your number one fan of The Office.

TV Quick Quips

I'm embarrassed to be posting two TV Quick Quips back to back, but aside from the fact that I've had a very busy week, I also haven't had much to say. So it's two Quips it is...

Here's my take on this week's episodes of my favorite shows:

The Golden Globes - I don't usually watch award shows, but I was really excited to see Ricky Gervais host. I was disappointed that the host plays such a small part in these shows. I was expecting him to be "on" more. I also didn't think he was all that funny. I had higher expectations based on other things I have seen him do. I still watched the whole show and I enjoyed seeing all the celebs in an a relaxed party-like atmosphere. And it was fun to see all the lovely gowns. My favorite of the night was Toni Collette's beaded gown. I thought she looked very glamorous. My least favorite was Cher dressed up as Elvira. Horrible. Is it possible to look more plastic and freaky? (Maybe if you're Joan Rivers dressed as a vampiress for Halloween).

The Biggest Loser - First I'm going to quip about last week's episode since I didn't get a chance to see it until this week. One thing I've noticed about this season's contestants is that they are all likable. So eliminations are very difficult. I don't want anyone to go. I was not surprised that Patti sacrificed herself in the elimination so that her daughter could stay. What mother wouldn't do that? I was glad that everyone respected her wishes and voted for her. After listening to the kind words everyone spoke about Patti, I really wished I had more chance to see her on the show. It seems as though she is a genuinely kind and caring person. And who doesn't love someone like that? As for this week's episode, again I wasn't surprised that Maria sacrificed herself for her son. And I still think everyone is pretty likable. Though Melissa (red team) has me very confused. Sometimes I really love her, but sometimes I'm just not quite sure. Is she a master manipulator or not? What do you think?

Modern Family - This week hit very close to home for me and my family. When it comes to technology I am just like Claire. We got HD TV, DVR and a new DVD player for Christmas 2008. I had to relearn how to use the remote (actually there are two of them) in order to switch from TV to DVD. And if that wasn't hard enough, I had to figure out how to use the DVR. I actually had to create a cheat sheet. And it never fails that I screw something up when I'm home alone. And just like Claire, I've called Geoff at work and asked him to walk me through using the remote. So, yeah, I loved this episode.

The Office - Finally a new episode! Or was it?! I'm torn between feeling completely ripped off and nostalgic by the "recap" type episode of The Office. It was a nice journey back to the beginning and a reminder of what made the show so great to begin with. But considering the show has been on a month long hiatus, a montage of old scenes with very little new content was more than a little lame. Couldn't they have saved that for later on in the season? NBC better throw the fans of The Office a bone soon. I know I'm definitely losing patience and I can only assume that other fans are as well.

TV Quick Quips

Here's my take on this week's episodes of my favorite shows:

American Idol: I love American Idol, but I usually don't watch the audition shows. I find them annoying and silly. Especially the goofy contestants who are just trying to have a few minutes on TV. But my younger daughter was watching on Tuesday and Wednesday, so I saw a few minutes of both episodes. I loved Katie, the teen from CT with the grandmother with Alzheimer's. She is my favorite - so far. Also, it was reported in our local paper that a 16 year old girl (Ellery Bonham) from a neighboring town also auditioned and was given a golden ticket. She didn't get any air time, but this is very exciting. Especially since she is a classmate of my friend Margaret's sons. I actually had a chance to hear Ellery sing last spring at her HS talent show. She is amazing. I hope she makes it. But the thing that really struck me about this show is how likable Victoria Beckham is and how horrible Mary J. Blige is. Based on the little bit I've seen of both of these ladies on TV and in interviews, I would have thought the exact opposite. Victoria Beckham is poised, kind and ladylike. Mary J. Blige, on the other hand, was little more than a catty HS girl. Just goes to show - first impressions can be misleading. Did anyone else notice this or feel the same? Or disagree?

The Biggest Loser: I haven't had a chance to watch this week's episode of The Biggest Loser. I will quip about this episode and the next one next week.

Modern Family: The final "Was it hot"? scene was fantastic! Way to end on a high note. I will admit that this was the first time that I thought one of the story lines wasn't all that funny. The whole Mitch/Cam gardener wedding scene was just not all that funny and neither was the Phil/Gloria dog butler story. There were still hysterical lines and it's still my new favorite show, but this was the weakest episode, in my opinion.

The Office: WTF?! No new episode -AGAIN!! This week I took upon myself to check NBC.com and see what the heck is going on. Apparently the next new episode will be next week on January 21st. It makes me very suspicious that NBC felt it was OK not to air a new episode for something like 4 or 5 weeks. Anyone else think this does not bode well for The Office? Oh well. I hate to say it, but I think maybe The Office is on its way out...

Here are a few upcoming TV "events" I'm looking forward to:

The Golden Globes - I don't usually watch award shows, but this one will be hosted by Ricky Gervais (creator and actor on the original The Office on BBC). Have you seen the commercials? He is hysterical. One of my favorite actor/comedians. Can't wait to see him as host. It's sure to be hilarious. Airing Sunday, January 17.

Lost - The sixth and final season of Lost premieres on Tuesday, February 2. As you may remember, I've been watching this since the beginning and I'm so confused and frustrated by this show. Many times I've thought about abandoning it, but I'm determined to hang in there until the end and find out what the heck is going on. Well, I may be disappointed. According to an article I just read in the paper the creators of this show have said that Lost will end without answering all the viewer's questions. What?! You've got to be kidding me. I've been confused and frustrated for all this time thinking it would all come together at the end and NOW they're telling us that won't be the case. Ugh! Well, I've hung in there this long. I'm going to hang on until the bitter end. And I do mean bitter.

Parenthood - A week or so ago I saw an ad for a new show debuting mid-season called Parenthood. Its based on a movie of the same name and is being directed by Ron Howard. Peter Krause (of Six Feet Under and Dirty Sexy Money) is one of the stars and it looks promising. I'm looking forward to checking it out. Premieres Monday, March 1.

Glee - The second half of Glee's first season is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 13. I had given up on this show, but the last episode before the hiatus seemed to have redeemed the show for me. We'll see.

Friday Night Lights - And in breaking news (announced on Thursday), Friday Night Lights will be back for a fourth season on Friday, April 30!!! Yay!! I really loved this show, especially the first two seasons. The third season seemed to get away from the story lines that made the show great to begin with, but maybe the fourth season will get back to basics. Here's hoping.

How about you? Any shows you're looking forward to?

TV Quick Quips

It was nice to have (most of) my favorite shows back after the holiday hiatus. Here's my take on this week's episodes:

1. The Biggest Loser - Last season was the first time I'd watched The Biggest Loser and I was happily surprised that Season 9 started so soon after the Season 8 finale. I must admit I felt like a big loser sitting on the sofa, eating popcorn and watching other people workout so close to the start of the New Year (which is when I supposed to start exercising again). But that's a whole other post.... So here's what I thought after the first episode. So far everyone seems very likable. There doesn't seem to be a crazy Tracey this season - though I'm sure that's because the season is still young. I don't have any favorites yet, but I liked the wife on the red team and the mom on the orange team. I was angry about what I'm calling the "ratings stunt" of eliminating two teams (yellow and blue) basically before the show even started. Of course, then they got a reprieve of sorts (30 days at home, supposedly with help with Bob and Jillian). Why? Why make them think they were leaving before they even started and then say - "just kidding". That's cruel and unnecessary. Meanies!

2. Modern Family - Goodness, I missed this show! Another hysterically funny episode. Favorite line - "You're quite the bullfight artist yourself"! ROFLMAO! (Is there a teen here who can verify that I got that right? Anyone? Bueller?) Loved Phil's kidney stone scenes -so funny. Loved Lily's Ferberization (how true were those scenes?). The best though was how everyone knew that the all the firemen were hot (even Alex and Haley). First Claire gets dressed up and then Cam and Mitchell get all excited when they realize they can call them for Mitchell's foot. Did you notice Cam videotaping the fireman carrying Mitchell out of the house. Love it!

3. The Office - I couldn't wait to watch The Office week. I was so excited to finally be able to see new episodes of my favorite shows after the holiday hiatus. Imagine my disappointment when I realized that The Office did not air a new episode this week! Why not? What's up? I'm already disillusioned with my previously favorite show and this is not helping me get my Office mojo back. Next week's episode better be new and it better rock! I'm just saying...

TV Quick Quips

Here's my take on this week's episodes of my favorite shows:

The Biggest Loser - I was so excited that Danny won! He really struck me as a really decent guy. I liked Rudy too and his transformation was completely amazing. But, I think the best man won. I hate to be catty, but I thought Rebecca looked cheap and sleazy. Her hair looked terrible, her dress was way too short (I could see the all the extra loose skin on her thighs flapping as she walked) and she seems to have morphed into a hootchie mama. What happened? She didn't look "hot", she looked ridiculous. I know that's mean, but it's true. Of course, she deserves a ton of credit for losing all that weight, but no matter what size you are, you need to dress for your body type. She failed in that. I was also glad to hear that a new season of The Biggest Loser will be starting on January 5. I've never watched this show before, and I just assumed it was over until next fall. Yay!

Modern Family - It was fun to see Phil's Dad on Skype. The apple didn't fall far from the tree apparently. Loved Jay's comment about not being in Columbia since there are "no goats in the street" and Cam's description of the baby swing as "something astronauts would train in". Very funny. Another great episode. This show keeps delivering week after week.

Glee - Yes, yes, I know I said was done with Glee. But after Modern Family, Madeleine wanted to watch Glee and since I was so comfy snuggle up on the sofa, I decided to watch rather than give up my prime location in the family room. (It's not often I get the sofa). I actually thought it was a pretty good episode. It seems they've put to rest the two pregnancy story lines that were bugging me. And it's nice to see the two couples who should be together moving in that direction. I was surprised when Madeleine said that episode was the season finale. Though it was a great finale episode. Way to keep the fans on the edge of their seats. But, then I heard from Karen at A Peek at Karen's World that part two of the season will begin again on April 13th. I reserve my right as a woman to change my mind about this show.

The Office - Once again, Creed had the best line of the episode - "What if I've been evil"? So Creed. Love it. Darryl was also great in this episode when Oscar came to the warehouse with Matt's (Mark's?) check. Very nice. I love the random Creed and Darryl moments. This season they've used Creed a lot more. Time to give Darryl more screen time, as well.

I was a little surprised (and sad) to see that both Modern Family and The Office aired their Christmas episodes last week. I guess that means there won't be any new episodes until after Christmas. With Glee finished until spring and The Biggest Loser finished until January 5th, I guess there won't be much to watch on TV for the next couple of weeks. I guess that means I'll have plenty of time to watch all my favorite Christmas movies on DVD.

TV Quick Quips

Considering the fact that The Biggest Loser finale is on tonight, I'd better hurry up and post Quick Quips for last weeks episode. Better (super) late than never.

The Biggest Loser - I was so impressed that Danny was able to lose 59 lbs while at home for 60 days. And Rudy lost 40+ while both of the women lost about 16 pounds (a respectable and realistic 2 lbs a week). What's up with that? Why is it so much easier for men to lose weight than it is for women? I realize that Danny and Rudy both have a lot more weight to lose than do either Amanda or Liz, but I've noticed this all along. It just seems so unfair. OK, rant over. As for the 4 finalists... I really hope Danny wins. Of the four remaining contestants he has been the most consistently nice and supportive without ever being annoying. Rudy really disappointed me when he stabbed Shay in the back. (In this morning's newspaper, I read that Rudy actually grew up in and still works in RI. I had no idea. Usually I would root for the hometown boy, but not this time). And as much as I like Amanda and think she's adorable, she's a bit of a whiner and a crybaby. Something I really have a hard time with. And while I've been rooting for Liz as the middle aged female on the show, she really can be a bore at times. But Danny is just a genuinely nice guy. I hope he wins. Phew! Glad I got that posted before the finale.

Glee - I'm no longer watching this train wreck of a show. I'm really disappointed about this, too, because the show started out so strong. I just can't stomach it anymore. I will no longer be quipping about Glee.

Modern Family - No show this week. I'm having serious withdrawal symptoms.

The Office - Ugh! I really need to give this show the heave ho. I just can't though because of the awesomeness that was season 2. I know. It was years ago. Time to move on. I'm working on it. This episode was just so stupid and repetitive that I can't even think of one episode specific thing to say about it. Oh wait. I think Rainn Wilson did a great job with his impressions of Stanley, Kevin and Toby. So good, in fact, that I thought maybe he was lipsynching over their real voices. That's about all I can say about The Office this week.

Not a great TV week. I did watch an excellent foreign film, however. If you don't mind reading subtitles, I highly recommend Elling. Here is how Netflix describes this charming and quirky movie:

Per Christiansen Ellefsen and Sven Nordin play the shy, retiring Elling and the imposing Kjell in this Norwegian movie about two mentally challenged friends who battle adversity and find their place in the sun. When the two become roommates, they attempt to create a life for themselves outside the confining, but protective, walls of the hospital. Petter Naess directs this Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language film.

Genre: Foreign Comedies, Foreign Dramas, Scandinavia
This movie is: Feel-good, Understated, Quirky, Emotional

Elling was without a doubt the best thing I watched on TV this week.

TV Quick Quips

TV Quick Quips are late again this week. Ugh! Here's my thoughts on this week's episodes of my favorite shows. Even though I feel as though I'm starting to repeat myself.

I still cry every episode of The Biggest Loser, but I'm at the point where I like all the remaining people equally. So, I don't really have all that much to say.

Modern Family is still the best new (or old) show on TV, in my opinion.

I've definitely lost my enthusiasm for Glee. What started out as a light-hearted, fun, guilty pleasure show has most definitely lost its charm. The whole Quinn lying to Finn about him being the father of her baby has gone on too long. And her attitude that he needs to "do something" about her financial situation is gag worthy. She needs to take some responsibility as well. Not to mention Finn isn't even the dad. And the fact that these are teenagers (!) just makes it all the more sick. I do enjoy the singing and dancing, but I'm not sure I can stomach any more of the pregnancy storyline(s) - both Finn/Quinn and the Schuster's false pregnancy. Yuck!

The Office was disappointing this week and there wasn't even a good Creed line to redeem the episode. As much as I hate to admit it, I think this show has outlived it's funny. I will probably continue to watch, though, since I was so in love with this show for so long. And every now and then there is a good episode.

But my big TV news for this week comes courtesy of Nan at Jade Page Press. Last week Nan mentioned to me that she was enjoying the first season of a BBC show called Gavin & Stacey that is out on DVD. She thought I might enjoy it. And did I ever! Geoff and I were hooked from the very first episode! The show centers around two young people who meet over the phone (through their jobs) and over the course of a few months decide they like each other and want to meet. The show is about their relationship, their families and their nutty friends. It is adorable, charming, funny and quirky. I (and Nan) highly recommend it.

TV Quick Quips

Here's my take on this week's episodes of my favorite shows:

1. The Biggest Loser: I was absolutely shocked by Rudy's behavior this week! When he betrayed Shay during the Circus challenge I was stunned! He did explain himself and technically he did say something to Shay about "if it got down to the two of them", but really I was just as surprised as Shay when he worked against her when it got down to three contestants. That was low. And then he decided to twist that knife in Shay's back by voting against her at the end of the show! I couldn't believe it! Up until this episode, I really thought of Rudy as a guy with a lot of integrity. I was wrong. Shame on Rudy! And I'm so sad that Shay was sent home. Of everyone on the show, she needed to be there. I wish she had been able to stay longer.
2. Modern Family: Pre-empted due to some silly award show! That is just egregious. I'm having some serious Modern Family withdrawal symptoms.

3. Glee: It was great to have Glee back after a two week hiatus. The episode was OK. I'm just not feeling this show anymore. I missed Emma this week. I realized that her storyline is the one I enjoy the most. I was disappointed in this episode.

4. The Office: OK episode. Once again Creed stole the show with his line about needing to get settled and running out of the office when he thought he was a suspect in a real murder and not a just a game. Love Creed. All his crazy behavior and weird comments really make me wonder what his life outside the office is like. Now THAT would be a great episode!

How about you? What's your take on your favorite shows?

TV Quick Quips

Here's my take on this week's episodes of my favorite shows?

1. The Biggest Loser
- Thank goodness Tracey was finally voted off the show. I loved that Jillian admitted to the camera that she doesn't like Tracey! I'm liking Jillian more and more all the time. I must admit, however, that Tracey looks fabulous and she really was able to keep up the weight loss and healthy lifestyle after she went home. So, good for her! I'm going to have to complain about product placement again, though. What the heck's up with suggesting that Extra Gum will be a good snack alternative to ice cream?! Really?! I don't think you can convince people who are thin and not food lovers that gum can be a good substitute for ice cream. Let alone people with food issues. (Or ice cream lovers like me). I'm not buying that. No way. And lastly... What's up with Bob and Amanda? I think it's great that he motivates her and they have a connection. Does anyone else think maybe there's more to it? I don't have a problem with that (unless one of them is married. Are they?). I just noticed it and I was wondering if I'm the only one.

2. Modern Family
- What can I say. This show is just one great laugh after another. Loved the very end when Mitchell and Cam were pretending to figure skate and Cam yells "My turn" as he runs at Mitchell for a lift and the screen goes black. Brilliant! Geoff and I are still making jokes about that scene days later. Loved all the sweet and clever t-shirts Jay had made for his family to celebrate their accomplishments. Awww... But I think my favorite part was that they focused a bit more on the middle daughter, Alex, and her practical jokes on her brother and sister (charging the cell phone and iPod). I thought it was very clever how they took her nerdy, bookish personality and showed how she used that in a comedic way to get back at her snarky sister. Go Alex! I hope to see them develop the other minor characters as well. Another great episode.

4. Glee
- No new episode for the second week in a row! This is so disappointing. Especially since the last episode I saw was one I didn't enjoy. I'm kind of losing interest now. Not good. I hope it's back this week with a really great episode.

3. The Office
- Again Creed comes in with a zinger of a line (that paper wasn't supposed to be delivered). So random, so funny and so Creed. I liked that we got to see some Dwight/Andy one-upmanship and prankiness. That is definitely an area of the show that has the potential to be very funny. And one I think they should pursue. This weeks scenes were a little lacking, but the idea is good. Not sure how I feel about the whole Michael and Pam's mom scenario. I thought his birthday lunch and scrapbook was very cute and I liked that Pam and Jim were charmed by it. But then when the whole thing changed because of her age, I wasn't really sure how to feel. I didn't think it was funny. But it was typical awkward Michael Scott, just much more personal than most of his previous gaffes. What did all you Office fans think?

How about you? What did you all think of these episodes or those of your favorite shows?

TV Quick Quips

Well, it's official. My blog has completely degenerated into a mindless mess of TV gossip. I'm not even managing to post Thankful Thursdays anymore. Nothing but TV Quick Quips. That's a fairly accurate indication of the state of my brain at the moment - a mindless mess. How sad. I promise that as soon as I have something intelligent to say, I will post it here. In the meantime, here's my thoughts on this week's episodes of my favorite shows:

The Biggest Loser - My daughter watched this episode before I did and when it was over her eyes and face were so puffy from crying I hardly recognized her. I'm not kidding. She warned me it was a tearjerker. As you all know, one thing I love about this show is how I get a good cry while watching it. Very cathartic. This week was especially emotional since we got to hear more of Abby's and Shay's stories. Abby has touched me from the very beginning. That woman is more than an inspiration. She is a wonder. I just love her. She just radiates love, acceptance, kindness, generosity of spirit and joy. I was so sad to see her leave the ranch. But as she said, she had completed her journey. For her it wasn't about learning how to lose weight. It was about learning how to love again and how to LIVE and not just to exist. She accomplished that. Seeing her now, it's so clear how happy she is. I wish her all the best that life has to offer. No one deserves it more. Next time I feel like complaining about my problems, I'm going to remember Abby and her bright smile.

Modern Family - Comedy Gold. This show is just one good laugh after another. I could totally relate to Clare after she got the kids off to school. All she wants to do is sit and read and then Phil wants to spend time with her. I don't know about the rest of you moms, but I know that once my kids get out the door in the morning, I pretty much need a nap to recover. And it's not even 7:30 in the morning yet. But it was really Cam who stole the show this week, in my opinion. Loved the pie eating to get to the boo boo bear out of the freezer. Loved him running at the car screaming with a trash can to free Lily. Loved how he dresses Lily up as Divas and takes her pictures. Still my favorite show.

Glee - A REPEAT!? Already. Not good. Especially after last week's weak episode. I really needed a great episode to redeem Glee in my eyes. I'm not happy....

The Office - Creed: You're paying too much for worms. Who's your worm guy?
ROFLMAO!! Creed doesn't say much, but when he does he always steals the show. He's always been my favorite character. I say, "More Creed!"

TV Quick Quips

Here's my take on this episodes of my favorite shows:

1. The Biggest Loser
- I was actually starting not to hate Tracy as much this week until she admitted to the camera that she hoped the Black team had cheated while at home and had eaten cake, etc. What a mean-spirited little twit. There I said it. I really don't like mean-spirited people. Everyone else at the ranch seems to genuinely be rooting for everyone else's success, but not Twit Tracy. She's mean, phony and two faced. Exactly the kind of person I despise. On another note, why is it that every week the person that goes home is NOT the person I think should go home. I really didn't want Dina to go this week. I think Daniel should have gone home. Now don't get me wrong, I love Daniel. But this is his second chance on the show and he has proven that he is able to lose weight at home. I felt as though Dina really needed more time there. Of course, she did great at home. And I'm glad for that. Can't wait to see what next week brings.

2. Modern Family - Count Manny the Colombian Coffee Drinker. That whole scene had me rolling on the floor. Still loving the humor in this show.

3. Glee - OK this week is the first time the quirkiness that is Glee didn't appeal to me. As you know, I've been curious as to why I enjoyed this show so much. Well this week I felt it was just OK. Nothing really grabbed me. I missed seeing some big group dance numbers. And the dance sequences between Sue and Will and Emma and Will were creepy and not fun or endearing. Of course, Madeleine (of "Glee is life" fame) freaked out when I said I didn't enjoy that episode. So, maybe it's just me. I'm still going to watch more episodes. I'm not convinced it wasn't just a weak episode. Time will tell. What did all you Glee fans think? Did this episode seem up to par or was it lacking Glee's usual charm? Just wondering.

4. The Office - I LOVED the Jim/Dwight prank with the duck mallard. Classic Office. Remember in earlier seasons all the Jim/Dwight pranks? Those were some of the best Office moments. It's been awhile since we've seen that kind of interaction. I hope they keep it up. I didn't mention this after the wedding episode, because I didn't think it was going to matter all that much, but did the rest of you Office fans notice that the actress who played Pam's mom was not the same actress who appeared in a previous episode as Pam's mom. It kind of bugged me, especially since the "type" of person each portrayed was so different. The original "mom" was more a typical mom. This newer mom is more hard edged, more glamorous, more bitter. If this new mom is going to be a bigger part of the show (which it appears she is) that really bugs me. Pam's mom was not originally portrayed this way and had a whole different persona, attitude and look. The writer's need to realize that we serious Office fans notice and remember this stuff. Even if it happened 4 seasons ago. Just saying....

TV Quick Quips

Here's my take on this week's shows:

1. The Biggest Loser - Well, I thought this episode wasn't going to be a tearjerker at first. And then Rebecca offered Dina her family video and I lost it. And then Liz sacrificed her DVD for Danny and more waterworks. But when Mo offered to go home and the blue team chose him over Tracy I really lost it...and not in a good way. As self-sacrificing as it was of Mo, I can NOT stand Tracy and I can't believe they didn't take the opportunity to get rid of her. The woman is completely irrational. She wants to call all the shots and have it be "game on", but then she can't understand why everyone is angry with her. I'm sick of her tears and her poor pitiful me attitude flip flopped with her complaining about everyone else being babies and her "tough" attitude. You can't have it both ways. You're either a hard @ss or you're not. Choose one. Better yet.... go home! (Next week I'll be sure to let you all know how I really feel) ;)

2. Modern Family - Still loving this one. Loved when Mitchell and Claire's mom, DeDe called Gloria "Charro". Loved when Gloria and DeDe were fighting and Phil kept calling out "I've got Gloria!" Too funny! Loved Claire's face when Phil was grabbing Gloria.

Loved how everyone was humming/singing Dillon's totally inappropriate song at the end of the episode. But the best part was at the end of the show when ABC told the audience we could watch a video of Dillon's song and we could even download it! OMG! How hysterical is that?

3. Glee - My 14 year old daughter has been watching this show from the beginning and in her words, "Glee is life". That seems a little dramatic for me, but then again she's a 14 year old girl - so maybe not! Anyway, many of you have commented on past TV Quick Quips that you also love Glee. And, as far as I know, none of you are 14 year old girls. So, I decided to give it a try. Since I am totally Type A when it comes to TV shows, I decided to watch the shows in order. Thanks to Hulu I was able to watch all the past episodes online, with the exception of episode 1 which was already gone. (I was able to let that go. It was difficult, but I did it). Anyway, I really liked it. I didn't love it, but I'm definitely hooked. And that totally surprises me because most of the characters are exaggerated stereotypes yet the show still works and I actually like it. Usually if a show (or a book) is too stereotypical or outrageous, I can't stand it. But somehow that is not the case here. Not sure what makes it work, but it just does. So far I can't stand the Cheerios Coach. I know we're not supposed to like her, but her character is too over the top, IMHO. I love Emma. She's sweet and a weird throwback to the 1940s. What's with her clothes? I like how Will/Emma/Terry triangle mirrors the Finn/Quinn/Rachel triangle. And even though it's completely wrong and unethical, I'm routing for Will and Emma and Finn and Rachel. Again, very un-Pamlike. So what is it about this show? All of you who love it so much, what do you think it is about Glee that is so appealing? Do you agree with my daughter that "Glee is life"? (And if so, are your 14 years old?)

4. The Office - I thought this episode had some good, classic Office humor in it. Though I watched it so late last night (after my Glee catch-up marathon) that I can't remember any lines specifically). I do remember that Oscar had some great lines and it was nice to see more of him. He doesn't get all that much camera time. Same with Kevin. Maybe since Jim and Pam were out of the office, they could focus more on the minor characters. I loved Oscar's line about the Committee on Rationality (or something like that). Very funny! Love how Toby just walked out of the meeting before Michael even had a chance to kick him out. Loved Creed's (he's my favorite) ideas for small talk (peas, ball bearings, dimes). Not an earth-shattering episode, but a good solid back to basics Office episode. Yay!

How about you? What are your thoughts on these shows or your own favorites? I'd love to hear what you think.

TV Quick Quips

And then there were three. My TV viewing list is quickly dwindling. I'm finding that I'm not being very forgiving this year when it comes to the shows I'm willing to watch. Which is probably a good thing, since I really don't have all that much time to watch TV as it is. So here's my take on the shows I watched this week:

The Biggest Loser: This show is so cathartic! I love it. Every episode I find myself in tears and I'm really enjoying a good cry once a week. Aside from Tracy (who I still dislike intensely) I love all the other contestants and it's so hard to watch them get voted off. And it's even harder to watch the other contestants vote them off. Why can't they all stay? I even felt bad for Julio this week. I didn't really like him at first, but he kind of redeemed himself in my eyes. I'm glad we get to see how the eliminated contestants did after leaving the show and I'm happy to learn that so far they have all done well.

Modern Family: I'm still loving this show! This week's episode didn't have as many laugh out loud moments as the first two, but it's still a keeper. I still think Phil is hilarious. And I love the way his wife handles him and all the other craziness in her life. She's so matter of fact about it. It cracks me up. And how cute is Manny? I loved his scene with Claire. And this week is the first time we've seen much of Alex (the younger daughter). I thought the actress that played her was very good. I loved her expression when Gloria told her the cute bus boy was looking at her. So sweet. Can't wait for next week.

The Office: Where to begin? I loved all the classic Office awkward moments and Michael Scott's crazy behavior and inappropriate (yet innocent) comments. I'm glad to see the writers getting back to more Season 2 like behavior for him. I thought it was very clever that the wedding attendants and Office staff copied that wedding dance from youtube that was all over TV this summer. Perfect! I loved Jim's cute speech about Pam (even though we did see most of it in commercials. GRRR!) I loved seeing Pam in a wedding dress. I loved how Jim was able to make her smile and feel better when she was upset right before the wedding. Here's what I didn't love. I didn't get to see them exchange vows. I really wanted to see that. I feel a little disappointed. Though Jim's look at the camera when they were standing at the railing of the Maid of the Mist after they were married almost made up for it. That look spoke volumes. And I did love the parallels between getting married on the boat and the episode in Season 2 on the Booze Cruise when Jim and Pam have their famous 27 seconds of silence scene at the railing of that boat. Very niiiice! Like Jim, I waited a long time for that day to come!

The Middle: I'm still kind of on the fence about this show. Once again it seemed a bit off. As though it should be funnier than it is. Is it me? I can't figure it out. I'm not sure if I'm going to watch this one again. It's OK, but I'm not sure if OK is good enough. I keep thinking maybe it will all "click" soon, though. We'll see. If I have time and desire I'll continue to watch, if not, I won't. Are any of you watching this one? I'd love to hear your take on it. I just can't figure it out.

Update from last week:

The Good Wife - I had really high hopes for this show, but it's not meant to be. I was finally able to watch last week's episode and it was very weak. I was really hoping this show would focus on the the thought processes of a wife who is thrust in the public eye when her husband's infidelity catches up with him. Haven't we all wondered how the wives involved in the numerous recent scandals were able to stand up in the spotlight when their husbands faced the music? I'd love to see the inside story of how these women are able to cope and how they make the decisions that they do. But that is not what this show is about. It's primarily a courtroom/crime drama - and a bad one at that. There are so many "holes" in this show, that I'm not even going to watch the third episode. More time for reading!

TV Quick Quips

TV Quick Quips are a little late this week. I've had a crazy week and just haven't been able to watch much TV. I'm almost caught up now, so I thought I'd "quip" about what I have been able to see.

1. The Biggest Loser - OMG! What a tearjerker this week. I cried so hard I actually needed tissues. Anyway, I was so touched by the selflessness of Sean and Antoine's offer to go home so Shay could stay. What amazing men. I just love them both and I'm sorry I won't get to see more of them. But I was happy to see that they have done so well at home. And was anyone else surprised that Alexandra and Antoine are a couple? I so did not see that coming. I am so happy for them. Of course, I can't avoid talking about Tracy. WTF? She is an absolute nut job. I really started to dislike her intensely this episode and I feel so bad for Coach Mo having her as his partner. Jillian is right - the woman in BANANAS!

2. The Good Wife - This is the one show I haven't managed to see yet this week. Next week I will update this week's episode along with the new one. (If I continue to watch. This week's episode will make or break it for me).

3. Modern Family - OK, this show is awesome! After last week I was a little worried that they wouldn't be able to sustain the comedy genius. Happily, I had nothing to worry about. This show is my new favorite (sorry The Office). Loved the way Jay really stepped up to the plate at the end with Manny. I was a little worried earlier in the episode and actually didn't like the one scene where Jay was a jerk to Manny. It still bothers me, but the way he handled Manny when his dad didn't show was amazing. And Phil is absolutely the funniest character on TV! I just love him. This show is non-stop laughs. This is the one show that everyone in the family watches and we actually had to pause and rewind a number of times because we were laughing so hard that we missed the next joke. The jokes are literally one after the other. If you haven't seen this one, I highly recommend it.

4. FlashForward - I only managed to watch half of this episode. It is just way too drama filled for me and the acting and writing are terrible. Not to mention I lost interest. I won't be adding this to my fall lineup.

5. The Office - OK you know how much I love this show, but I must say I think this episode was really just a redo of other episodes where Jim takes control (badly) of the office. There wasn't much new here. This makes me so sad because I want this show to be amazing. And as much as I'm dying for a JAM (Jim/Pam) wedding, I am beyond annoyed that there were commercials telling us the wedding will be next week. I have been waiting 6 seasons for a JAM wedding and I wanted it to be a surprise. The element of surprise has always been what made the JAM relationship so exciting for fans and they took that away from us at the most important moment. UGH! And if that wasn't enough, they even showed clips from their wedding!!!!! I don't want to see Pam in her wedding dress before the big day. I want all the anticipation, excitement and surprise of not knowing anything ahead of time. Thanks for ruining that NBC! Can you tell I'm more than a little disappointed in The Office right now? Am I the only one who feels this way? How about you other fans? What did you think about this?

6. The Middle - This week I added another new show - The Middle with Patricia Keaton. It was pretty good. There were some real truths in this show about parenthood and family life, but for some reason it wasn't laugh out loud funny. It seemed just a beat "off". Not sure why. I can't put my finger on it exactly, but something was just not quite right. I will definitely watch again as I could really relate to a lot of it, but unlike Modern Family it just didn't hit all the right notes.

How about you? What did you think about these shows or your favorites this week?

TV Quick Quips

This week I tried a couple of new shows in addition to my beloved The Office. As I said before, I'm not sure if I'll continue with any or all of them, but here's my take on this week's episodes.

1. The Biggest Loser - I still love Abby, but some of the other contestants are also very appealing. Actually, most of the other contestants are appealing. Except Julio! What is his deal? There is an arrogance there that makes him very unlikable. And another thing... As I said before, I've only seen a couple of random episodes of this show so I'm not sure if this is business as usual, but the product placement on this show is beyond annoying. Do we really need Jillian to show the contestants how to pre-make snacks using Ziploc bags?! Yuck! I hate that stuff. Way too blatant. Will I stop watching the show because of it? No, I'll just be a little cranky during those scenes.

2. The Good Wife - I'm on the fence on this one. I love the story line of the wife of the cheating public figure husband and how and why she "stands by her man". And I'm curious to see where that part of the show goes. BUT (and this is a big BUT), the courtroom part of this show was very weak. There is no way a junior associate on her first day in a new law firm would be given a case and have to go to court THAT DAY! There are so many courtroom dramas on TV that the TV viewing audience is not going to buy this. After watching courtroom and law type shows for over a decade (two decades?) we are simply too sophisticated for that. So, I'm going to give this another week and see what I think.

3. Modern Family - OMG! This show is comedy genius! I loved everything about it. Loved the one camera, documentary style a la The Office. Loved all the characters and their relationships with each other. So many laugh out loud moments I can't even begin to name them. But when they wrote "Shoot Luke" at 4:15 on the family calendar, I knew I was going to love this show! I'm pretty sure this one's a keeper.

4. FlashForward- Well, I'm not sure about this one. I wasn't riveted, but I think I'll give it at least one more week. Seems like this show has the potential to be another LOST - in the sense that it asks more questions than it ever answers. And as much as I love LOST, I'm not sure I can handle more than one show that drives me crazy. I'm still watching LOST mostly because I've invested so much time in it and I'm stubbornly holding on till the bitter end. But I must admit that most of the time I'm pretty "lost" myself. I'm not at all interested in getting involved in another show like that. My pea brain can't handle it.

5. The Office - After the cold open with Michael and Oscar and the colonoscopy bit, I was a little worried that maybe The Office had crossed the line from awkward to offensive (especially after the Stanley storyline from last week). The episode itself however was pretty typical for The Office. I'm beyond excited that FINALLY we are getting some real information about a Jim/Pam wedding and it seems as though we might actually get to see one this season. Hallelujah!

While watching one of the above shows (not sure which one), I saw a commercial for another new show, The Middle, which starts Wednesday starring Patricial Heaton (Deborah from Everybody Loves Raymond). It looked OK, but since I love Patricia Heaton (my family claims Deborah and I are twins), I'm going to give it a try. I'll be sure to let you know what I think. I don't think I'm going to be able to keep up with all these shows, especially once my mid-season favorites start, but we'll see.

I'd love to hear what you thought of these or other shows. Any new favorites?

TV Quick Quips

TV Quick Quips are little late this week. My hope is to post them on Saturdays after all my weekly shows have aired. Also, TV Quick Quips are probably going to be a little random for awhile. Right now the only one of my "regular" shows that has started is The Office, so I will definitely be quipping about that every week. I'm not sure when the rest of my shows will start (some don't start until January), so in the meantime I'm going to try a few new shows and see what I think. I will quip about any I watch, but I may not continue with any/all of them if they don't appeal to me. I tend to get bored with shows fairly quickly. OK, here we go:

1. The Biggest Loser - I've never watched an entire season of this show, but I have seen a few random episodes and I must admit I enjoy watching the contestants (?) meet their goals. When I saw previews for this season I knew I had to watch. Abby, the woman whose husband and two children were killed in a car accident, really touched me. When I saw her in the previews I just knew I wanted to know more about her story. I will admit I was crying my eyes out when she told about how her entire life was wiped out in an instant. So for me, this show is all about Abby. I just want her to win. The woman is an absolute inspiration. (OK there was nothing Quick or Quippy about that. Sorry).

2. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - As I said earlier, Geoff and I had watched a few episodes of this show on DVD. Geoff had read somewhere that it was The Office-like. Well, after watching the premiere, I've decided that I'm not going to be adding this show to my repertoire. While the comedy in The Office is often awkward and over the top, the comedy in Philadelphia just goes too far. It crosses the line from almost offensive to offensive. I just didn't think it was funny. This show is just not for me.

3. The Office - This show has been my favorite TV show since it's second season (this is season 6). I will admit that season 4 and 5 were weak, but I'm just too committed to give in. I hope this season redeems the show for me. I thought the premiere was pretty good. There were some funny moments. I love the randomness that is Creed. And Pam and Jim are so sweet (I love the Pam and Jim story line). BUT, I did NOT like where they went with Stanley's character. It seemed a little too dramatic and serious for this show. I don't want to think about something so serious and upsetting in my favorite comedy. Awkward, no problem. Uncomfortable, go for it. Inappropriate comments, bring it on. But making a joke out of infidelity seems to be wrong for The Office. I will be curious to see where they go with this. I'm a little worried about it, though. We'll see.

OK, this week two new shows are premiering that caught my eye - Modern Family and The Good Wife. I'll let you know what I think.

TV Quick Quips

And then there was one. What a sad and sorry TV Quick Quips this is. This past week was the last episode of the last of my favorite shows for the season. *sniff* It's always nice to have a slower pace in the summer, but I do miss my favorite shows.

*****WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD!*****

The Tudors - OK, I know I've said this for the past two episodes of The Tudors, but I'm not liking the Duke of Suffolk's new cruel and conniving persona. And I can't really quite figure out where it's coming from. Purposefully getting the executioner drunk before Cromwell's execution so that it was an absolute butchering was just the last straw for me. I no longer have any sympathy for him. As a matter of fact, there are very few redeeming or sympathetic characters left on the show. Princess Mary is somewhat sympathetic, but her zealousness is starting to be apparent (of course, I know how she behaves when she finally takes the thrown). Anyway, I'm looking forward to next season. Can't wait to see how they portray the rest of the story and I hope it won't be the last season. Of course even after Henry dies, I suppose they can continue through Elizabeth's reign. Afterall, she is the last of the Tudor line. I hope that is the case. I guess we'll find out next season. I just wish I didn't have to wait so long.

TV Quick Quips

Seems so weird that there are only two shows left to "quip" about. Well, here's my thoughts about this week's episodes of my favorite shows (what's left of them):

The Tudors - Three things struck me in this episode. First, I don't think poor Anne of Cleves looks like a horse! YIKES! And if Henry would just be kinder and gentler to her, maybe it would all work out (yes, I know I'm trying to rewrite history. And in reality Anne was supposed to have been badly scarred by smallpox. But Joss Stone isn't, so saying she looks like a horse is not working for me). Secondly, in the previews for the next episode we seen Henry's next wife (his 5th). Since he only had 6, does this mean next season will be the last? Say it isn't so. And lastly, I've always been sympathetic to the Duke of Suffolk (no, not just because he's handsome) because he seemed to have a real sense of morality. BUT, he is starting to be just as scheming and unethical as everyone else now and I really don't like it. I agree with his wife when she says she wants her "sweet Charles" back. Yeah, me too!

American Idol - I'm writing this next part on Wednesday afternoon (after the performances of Tuesday night, but before the results show). On Tuesday night I was BLOWN AWAY by Adam's rendition of Mad World. I missed his first performance of this song, because that episode went long and my DVR didn't record it. I was able to watch in online, but seeing it on the larger TV screen was a completely different experience. So haunting. I can't get it out of my head. I will definitely download this song to my iTunes library. And that's saying something because I don't even use my iPod very much right now. Anyway, I know after last week's show I said that I would be OK no matter who won, but as the days passed, I really started to find myself hoping that Kris will win. I'm a real sucker for a (deserving) underdog. And the more I think about the season as a whole, I really do think Kris grew so much as singer and he has a fabulous knack for changing popular songs and making them his own. That being said, I really do think Adam had a much better night. That last song was just horrible and it was not at all appropriate for Kris' voice. Even Kara (who wrote the song) said that. I sure hope that this won't work against Kris. As Kara said I hope everyone voted based on the season as a whole. Though it seemed clear to me from what all the judges said to Kris, that they expect Adam to win. We will see. I can't wait for tonight's show. I'll be back with my reactions after the show airs tonight!

This next part is being written after the finale. OMG!!!! I can NOT believe Kris actually won! I'm so happy and so bummed all at the same time. But more happy - I think. I really wanted Kris to win, but then when he did I felt bad for Adam. (Who handled not winning like a champ, I might add). And wasn't Kris just so humble and adorable when he won? I've never felt so torn about an Idol finale before (and I've watched them all). I wish they could both win. Anyway, I think Adam is going to have an amazing career, with or without the Idol title. I'm not sure I can say the same for Kris. So maybe it is good that he won. Anyway, I'm rambling again. I just love them both!

What did you all think of the rest of show? I was amazed by it. I had no idea there were going to be so many "stars" performing. Some were truly stars, but I thought a few were has beens. Oh well. And did anyone else think Rod Stewart was drunk - or possibly suffering from a medical condition that makes old people unsteady on their feet? Geoff and I actually had to fast forward through it because it was just so upsetting to watch. How about when Kris sang with Keith Urban. Are Geoff and I the only ones who thought Kris sounded better than Keith? Wow! Anyway, I thought it was an entertaining show. I could have missed the silly awards they gave out. But, I LOVED hearing Kara sing! I've liked her right from the start, but now I think I have a little bit of a girl crush on her. She's a great singer in addition to being personable, likable and a good judge. She always has something valuable to say to each contestant. I hope she's back next year.

TV Quick Quips

For what it's worth, here's my opinion of this week's episodes of my favorite shows:

The Tudors - Can't believe that there are only 2 more episodes this season. I love these Showtime and HBO shows, but the seasons are so short. This season has been so fascinating as a study of the history of this time period. The first two seasons were really more about Henry and his relationships with his wives (and mistresses), but this season has been like a history lesson. I LOVE it! As I've said in the past, I'm fascinated with this time period and I'm enjoying watching history come alive.

American Idol - First, did anyone else think that Kati Perry's cape with Adam's name embroidered on it was extremely inappropriate? Seemed very insensitive to me. AND, I thought if anyone should have been eliminated, it should have been her. She was, without a doubt, the worse singer there Wednesday night. Also, I wonder why Kris was the first person to be told that he was safe. Did they really think they were amping up the suspense and that we might actually believe Adam would be leaving? Come on! As soon as they said Kris was safe, I KNEW that Danny would be going home. Regardless of the fact that he had never been in the bottom three and Adam had. That strategy totally backfired, IMO. As for the final two. I think they got it right. Adam's always been my first choice. And between Danny and Kris, while I've been disappointed in each of them at different times, I think Kris is a more versatile singer. He really does make many of the songs "his own" - to quote the judges. I can't remember any other idol contestant who has done that as successfully as Kris. At this point, I would be pleased if either of them win.

LOST - OK, I know I've said in the past that I like the LOST recap shows. And I do. But, come on! Do we really need one right before a 2 hour finale? That is just WAY too much of a time commitment for this busy mom, wife, part-time librarian ... person with a life! I will admit that I watched about 2 minutes of the recap and then switched to American Idol. I watched the actual episode later on DVR. And here's my reaction.... WTF? That was 2 bloody (literally) hours just to have the bomb go off. Really the rest was just "fluff". Except seeing who Jacob is. But in the end did that even matter since he ended up going up in smoke? Whatever. Final season.... bring it on!

The Office - I had NO idea that this week's show was the finale until I saw a commercial on Tuesday! I was so not expecting that. I knew it would be soon, but since I hadn't seen anything during the previous episode, I assumed I had at least 2 more weeks. What a shock! And speaking of shocks, I sure wasn't expecting a JAM baby! How cute was it that Jim had tears in his eyes at the end of the episode? I must say, The Office always has really good finales! So, now the question is.... Will we have a JAM wedding before the arrival of the JAM baby? I sure hope so. It would be a real bummer for all the JAM fans if we don't get to see a JAM wedding. I sure hope next season doesn't open with Jim and Pam already married. The Office finales always leave me on the edge of my seat and hankering for the new season. *sigh*
